Forensic Context Ltd was created in 2012 following the closure of the Forensic Science Service (FSS). Our experts were leading FSS scientists in their fields and wanted to continue to utilise their forensic knowledge and skills to serve the Justice system. We specialise in sexual offence cases and are acknowledged as highly skilled experts in the complex evaluations often required in this type of case. Our experts also have extensive experience in a wide range of other case types.
What we do
Our work is primarily criminal defence review of DNA profiling results and body fluid findings, however we have also undertaken reviews on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC). We also have expertise in fibres, hairs and the assessment of textile damage. Whilst we do not have our own laboratory facilities, we can visit the Crown forensic provider’s laboratory to re-examine items if required. In some cases, we will commission additional DNA analysis or item examination by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
We are highly committed to providing independent, impartial advice of the highest quality. All of our reports undergo an in-depth ‘peer review’ by another experienced expert to ensure you receive sound advice – you will find that some other experts do not routinely utilise peer review.
At the present time, there is no agreed international standard (ISO) for our case review work, however Forensic Context has documented, controlled and robust procedures and we work to similar principals as the ISO standards. Forensic Context’s experts undertake regular continuous professional development in their areas of expertise.
